One of the local organizations that Rosen Hagood supports is The Woodward Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. The foundation was created on May 16, 2012 by a family from Daniel Island whose members suffer from chronic inflammatory bowel diseases.
To combat the diseases, the Woodward family has been adhering to the “Specific Carbohydrate Diet,” which basically removes hard-to-digest complex carbohydrates from their diet. Although it is a challenge, the Woodward family believes that foods are a key component to controlling the symptoms of these diseases.
The family created this foundation to help fund research on nonpharmaceutical approaches to controlling inflammatory bowel diseases. Their goal is to raise $250,000 to continue clinical trials on if and why the diet works. Funding is critical to this research and the Woodward’s are motivated to make this happen.
