Rosen Hagood Sponsors Essay Contest for Charleston County High School Students

Winner to Receive Scholarship to the American Bar Association’s 2013 National Civics and Law Academy

Rosen Hagood announces its sponsorship of the 2013 National Civics and Law Academy Scholarship Essay Competition. The firm is encouraging high school students from the Charleston County School District to reflect on Franklin D. Roosevelt’s quote, “Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.”

Students are being asked to write an essay of 2000 words or less in which they discuss their thoughts and opinions as to how the leaders of today can inspire the younger generations to become engaged in the democratic process. The winner will receive a scholarship to the National Civics and Law Academy, which includes tuition, room and board, transportation, and fees for one Charleston County School District high school student.

The 2013 National Civics and Law Academy is in Washington, D.C., March 10-14, 2013. The Academy offers students a unique and extraordinary opportunity to visit the nation’s capital to experience first-hand how the legislative, executive, and judicial systems in the United States function. Students will examine public policy issues from diverse perspectives, develop citizenship and leadership skills, and meet peers from throughout our nation. Participants from around the country will interact directly in discussion seminars with national leaders in government and the law.
