James Atkinson Bruorton IV "Chip" focuses his practice in the areas of construction litigation, commercial business litigation, condemnation and surety law. Mr. Bruorton also has experience in personal injury, premise liability and defamation matters. He is admitted to practice in both Federal and State Court for the state of South Carolina. He is a member of the Charleston County Bar Association, the South Carolina Bar and the American Bar Association. He is actively involved in the American Bar Association's Forum on the Construction Industry and the Carolina Association of General Contractors. He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Financial Management from Clemson University in May of 2000 and earned his juris doctorate degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in May of 2003.

Personal Information

Chip Bruorton was born in Greenville, SC on May 6, 1978. Mr. Bruorton and his wife, Lindsay, along with their three sons, Carver, Lyles, and Gracen reside in Mt. Pleasant, SC where they are members of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church. Mr. Bruorton volunteers his time as a youth football and soccer coach for the Town of Mount Pleasant and the Charleston YMCA. He is a member of various bar organizations, the Charleston Chamber of Commerce and the Carolinas Association of General Contractors. Mr. Bruorton currently serves on the South Carolina Bar Fee Dispute Resolution Committee.

Background

Chip Bruorton began his relationship with Rosen, Rosen & Hagood, LLC. as a law clerk while he was a law student at the University of Tennessee. He joined the firm as an associate in August 2003 and became a non-equity member in January 2008. Mr. Bruorton was named an equity member of the firm in January 2011. Since joining the firm in 2003, Mr. Bruorton has had the opportunity to handle a variety of legal matters and gain significant experience and knowledge from other members of the firm.

Mr. Bruorton has had experience representing private and public owners, architects, contractors, construction managers, subcontractors, and bonding companies. He has represented both Plaintiffs and Defendants in construction litigation matters and commercial business litigation matters. His construction litigation matters include mechanics liens, payment and performance bond claims, construction defect claims and surety indemnification claims. He has previously defended jobsite injury claims, premise liability claims, defamation claims and automobile accident claims. Mr. Bruorton is also involved on behalf of several municipalities in acquiring easements and right of ways.
