Firm Successfully Defends School District in Personal Injury Claim

Rosen Hagood April 7, 2005

On March 15, 2005, RRH attorney, Frank Blanchard , obtained a complete defense verdict in favor of the Charleston County School District (CCSD) in a personal injury claim brought by a 16-year old minor.

The minor plaintiff was a participant in a youth football league co-sponsored by the CCSD and the Charleston County Parks & Recreation Commission.

The minor alleged that an opposing player was allowed to wear steel golf cleats and cleated him below his knee during a football game. The minor alleged that the CCSD failed to properly supervise the football league.

Following a two-day trial, the jury returned a verdict finding that the CCSD was not liable to the plaintiff and further finding that the plaintiff’s claims were barred by a waiver form signed by his mother prior to his participation in the football league.

The trial court subsequently denied the plaintiff’s motion seeking a new trial.
