Background

Mr. Gowdown completed his undergraduate studies at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he received a bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1995. He earned his juris doctor degree from the University of Dayton School of Law in Dayton, Ohio, in 1998.

During his law school studies, Mr. Gowdown served as the Editor in Chief of the University of Dayton Law Review and authored the article entitled, "The Noneconomic Damages Cap of Ohio Revised Code Section 2744.05(c)(1): Legislative Usurpation of the Constitutional Right to Trial by Jury," 22 U. Dayton L. Rev. 283 (1997). He also was an active member of the law school's Student Ambassador Program.

Mr. Gowdown is admitted to practice in the State of South Carolina, the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He is a member of the Charleston County Bar Association, the South Carolina Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Public Investors Arbitration Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, and the South Carolina Association for Justice. Mr. Gowdown serves on the Editorial Board of the South Carolina Lawyer publication, he is a member of the Executive Committee of the Charleston County Bar Association, and he is the Immediate Past Chairman of the Young Lawyers Section of the International Society of Primerus Law Firms. He also volunteers twice a week through the Charleston Book Buddies Program, which is affiliated with Charleston Volunteers for Literacy. Mr. Gowdown is a 2004 graduate of Leadership Charleston and a 2010 graduate of Leadership South Carolina. He now serves on the Leadership South Carolina Board of Trustees. Most recently, Mr. Gowdown was appointed to the Primerus Leadership Council.

Before joining the firm, Mr. Gowdown served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Margaret B. Seymour, United States District Court for the District of South Carolina. He practices in the areas of personal injury, traumatic brain injury, business and commercial litigation, securities litigation, and medical malpractice.
